I'm swimming to save lives

  • This is my first year diving

  • in for youth mental health

Update (29/02/2025): Thank you so much everyone for your donations, I'm a little overwhelmed, and I haven't even logged any laps... I have been going every day for the last week training my stamina, so I'm really looking forward to holding my end of the bargain.

Somedays I feel like my efforts are in vain - this seriously challenges that; I really appreciate it.

Update (Day 2): Strained my arm yesterday doing 8 laps, so today I took it slow and easy using only one arm... and did 10 laps!

Update (Day 3): Missed today's session when I put my alarm for 6:30am (rather than 6:30pm) when taking a nap and didn't even stir until morning.

Update (Day 5): I've strained so many places; I'm going to take a break for a couple days. Ironically, my mental headspace is so much stronger than my physical right now...

Update (Day 10): Arm still too sore to lift above my head. It's incredibly frustrating. I guess your body can't go from couch potato to swimming 10km just because your mind decided to.

Update (Day 25): Still haven't visited the pool. Definitely miss it. My arm is feeling better, although it still feels "heavy" and "tired" just holding it above my head. That being said, I could say the same for life in general.

Update (Day 31): Finally got my merch! Figured I should end at 2km which was my original goal, so I swam again for the first time in weeks. Wasn't pretty or pleasant but I did it.

Did you know suicide is the leading cause of death for young people in Australia?

That means that each year more young people die by suicide than in car accidents or from cancer.

This March, I'm swimming to make sure young people in Australia have the mental health support they urgently need.

By sponsoring my challenge, you’ll be helping to prevent youth suicide.

All funds raised will help young people feel better about today and the future, no matter what challenge they're facing.

“...Every one of the social and psychological causes of depression and anxiety they have discovered has something in common. They are all forms of disconnection. They are all ways in which we have been cut off from something we innately need but seem to have lost along the way."

“What if depression is, in fact, a form of grief—for our own lives not being as they should? What if it is a form of grief for the connections we have lost, yet still need?”
― Johann Hari, Lost Connections
