I'm swimming to save lives

  • This is my first year diving

  • in for youth mental health

Did you know suicide is the leading cause of death for young people in Australia?

That means that each year more young people die by suicide than in car accidents or from cancer.

This March, I'm swimming to make sure young people in Australia have the mental health support they urgently need.

By sponsoring my challenge, you’ll be helping to prevent youth suicide.

All funds raised will help young people feel better about today and the future, no matter what challenge they're facing.

Day 8

Happy international women's day to all the amazing women who have made this challenge so interesting.
I swim with the Murray Bluetits who support each other and have made lasting friendships. I love the group we have created and watching each member of the team progressing in their swimming journey has been so great.
What a group.
Today 3 of us decided to swim to Hindmarsh Island. This involves swimming across the main boating channel. The weather was perfect and the companionship was awesome. We met 3 boats during our swim who all waved and said hello. I am glad we swam as a group with our highly visible tow buoys. 1.7km. A personal best.

Day 5

Had a restful swim this morning with our flock of Bluetits. So lovely to share the swim with such amazing people.
Some dipped early some dipped later and some watched from the shore. But all enjoyed the companionship of this amazing group.
Thank you all for your support and friendship.
500m.

Day 4

So far so good. 1km each day.
Today I missed the others by 15 minutes so they were already in the middle of the bay when I started. But, I took my time and swam at my pace and by the end I met up with them. (they went to the end of the Jetty and back which is how I caught them)

Day 2 - another km

This morning we swam a kilometre around the bay. There was a slight chop on the water from an easterly breeze. Enough to splash us but not too much. Just one of the challenges we face with open water swimming.

4 of us headed out and did the 1km swim, out to the middle of the bay, turn right to take us into the bay, right again takes us back towards the boat club then finally home along the shoreline.

It all starts tomorrow

Tomorrow is the first of March and the start of our laps for life challenge. A group of Clayton Bay swimmers have challenged ourselves to swimming to raise money for Reach Out, an initiative providing mental health support services.
We will each swim to a personal goal with the group aiming to swim 20km over the month. Several of the group, myself included, aim to swim the 20km as individuals. A huge challenge but with the support of the group we will make it.
Your support would be great and you can donate through the group page or directly to an individual.
I will keep you posted on my progress through the month.
