24Hour Manuka Pool swim to raise funds for youth mental health
Ever wanted to swim in the Manuka Pool at midnight? This weekend is your chance.
A special 24 hour swim is open to the Canberra community from 1500 Saturday 23rd to 1500 Sunday 24th March to help reach the $15000 fundraising goal for youth mental health and suicide prevention.
It is all for youth mental health and suicide prevention. 1 in 4 young people live with a mental health challenge in Australia, with suicide the leading cause of death for young people. Money raised through Laps for Life in March helps ReachOUT support young people with resources, counselling and programs.
Last year the 24 hour swim attracted 152 swimmers and clocked 10180 laps with $15,000 raised during the swim taking the fundraising total to over $35,000 for 2023. Manuka Pool Lappers finished in the top 3 fundraisers nationally.
Catherine Russell, a swimmer in the Manuka Pool Lappers team said it felt good making her laps count for a good cause.
“I have seen first hand the impact of mental health challenges on young people and what the loss of a young life to suicide does to the people left behind - we can ensure more support is available for young people and fundraising through Laps for Life is one way to do that.”
"The 24 hour swim is a great way to get behind the Manuka Pool Lappers team or jump in and swim a lap or two after hours.
“Get involved by nominating a time you would like to swim, or just making a donation or sponsoring a swimmer in the Manuka Pool Lappers team.
“We have swim slots available from 3pm Saturday to pm Sunday just contact 0422 106 627.

Where: Manuka Pool
When: Saturday 23 March from 1500 (3pm) to Sunday 24 March 1500 (3pm)
How: Choose a swim time/slot, make a donation at the door or sponsor a Manuka Pool Lapper
Why: To help reach our $15000 fundraising goal to provide support through ReachOUT to young people experiencing mental health challenges - that's enough money to support 3600 young people.

That means that each year more young people die by suicide than in car accidents or from cancer.
This March, we’re swimming to make sure young people in Australia have the mental health support they urgently need.
By sponsoring our challenge, you’ll be helping to prevent youth suicide.
All funds raised will help young people feel better about today and the future, no matter what challenge they're facing.
