My Introduction and Goal

  • This is my first year diving

  • in for youth mental health

Hello everyone,

In this world and period, talking about mental health and suicide and its effect on people is highly stigmatised due to the lack of understanding and fear about them, and often, many individuals only realise how serious these topics are when it happens to someone you care about. As a 2024 national champion in swimming, this March my goal is to swim 50km this month (that's 2000 laps of a 25-metre pool), with the intention that every last lap of those 2000 laps I swim will be dedicated to honour youth lost to suicide and raise awareness by educating and informing people about these serious but very real topics. I will be posting on my blog frequently throughout the month about facts about youth mental health and suicide.

So may I ask politely, please donate. Whether it be a dollar or a hundred, anything will mean a lot to me and the struggling youth that I am raising the money for.

Thank you!

**EDIT** Thank you for the donations :)

6.3.25 - Update

4.05km smashed out today 💪 (162 laps)

I would like to begin my first blog post today talking about suicide warning signs that can be seen in people, and how to get help. A hard, not easy topic to talk about, but that's my goal - to raise awareness. A few warning signs of suicide that can be observed in friends, family, or even yourself are:

- Talking about suicide
- Sudden mood changes
- Feeling like a burden
- A loss of interest in hobbies they/you used to enjoy

And finally, the most alarming and major warning sign that someone has made the decision to take their life is if they have had an extreme mood change. For example, if a friend you know who is usually anxious or depressed suddenly is very relaxed and calm, this is a significant warning sign.

If you know anyone (or yourself) that may have these signs that are often observed with feelings of suicide, please do not hesitate to get help.

But how do you get help?
Websites such as LifeLine, Beyond Blue, and the Black Dog Institute all offer extremely well detailed ways in helping others and yourself take the first step of recovery they need. I will list them here:

Helping others with suicide -https://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/resources-support/suicide/helping-others/

Helping yourself -

Thank you for reading my blog for today, If you haven't already, please consider donating to help the young youth in Australia who desperately need our help and financially support the social care workers who dedicate their lives in helping these struggling people as their day-to-day jobs.

See you soon!
