Jodee Shead

I'm swimming to save lives

  • This is my first year diving

  • in for youth mental health

Did you know suicide is the leading cause of death for young people in Australia?

That means that each year more young people die by suicide than in car accidents or from cancer.

This March, I'm swimming to make sure young people in Australia have the mental health support they urgently need.

By sponsoring my challenge, you’ll be helping to prevent youth suicide.

All funds raised will help young people feel better about today and the future, no matter what challenge they're facing.

About me.

I'M SWIMMING TO SAVE LIVES
My name is Jodee Shead,  I am 55 yrs old and a mother of 2.
I have neck a injury that prevents me from doing many physical activities.  The injury makes it difficult for me to swing my arms and turn my head at the same time.  Due to this, I need to use a snorkel to breath while performing my freestyle stroke.  I also made my own individual Stroke which I have named “the upside down butterfly stroke”
I have been told it looks very unusual. Lol.    However, this is a challenge I’m willing to do for the future of the Mental health of our Society.

It is my first year diving in for youth mental health.   Infact I only starting swimming laps in the Echuca pool late last year (November).  I hadn’t done any real exercise since 2017, I had to stop sport because of the neck injury, which affects the major nerves in my neck and caused permanent nerve damage.    I surprised myself with how many laps I can now swim at a time.
I have been averaging 40laps of the 50m pool a session.   However, this last 2 weeks I have managed 50 laps per session.
So far from today (Friday 21st March) I have swum 592laps just this month for Youth mental health.   That’s 29.2km.    Which is the equivalent to 116km of running.    A feat that I’m very proud of.
My goal is to reach 40km (800laps) for the Month of March.
Please make my swimming mean something and donate today.
