As a therapist and someone working in suicide prevention, I can't stress enough how crucial it is to address this issue collectively. Did you know that suicide is the leading cause of death for young people in Australia?
That means each year, more young people die by suicide than in car accidents or from cancer.
This March, I'm swimming to ensure that young people in Australia have the mental health support they urgently need.
In my role, I've seen firsthand the impact of community efforts in suicide prevention. There is power in collaborative action. Every stroke I take and every effort is aimed at breaking the stigma around mental health and ensuring accessible support for all people.
I hope to swim 31 km in 31 days, from Saturday 10th February to Tuesday 12th March. I will be swimming as much of it in the Indian Ocean at Christmas Island as the swell will allow; the rest will be in the pool.
