Recently, I have learnt that children who have been abused either physically, sexually or emotionally by those in positions of responsibility are 8 times more likely to attempt, fantasize or end their own lives.
Their adaptations to the circumstances they face to survive are exhausted and their experiences of not feeling safe in their bodies and environments carries over into adulthood.
I’m swimming for those kids who are fighting against all odds to live a good life.
As I too suffered from mental health illness, I understand what it takes to envision a better life for oneself. So, I am swimming to demonstrate how important it is for young people to receive the help and guidance they need to know their life is precious.
