Why I swim

Mental health is something very close to my heart, something that I've experienced myself over the past few years. One of the best things that has helped with my mental health is movement - particularly swimming. So, this march I am swimming 20kms for youth mental health!

Swimmer

I'm taking part in Laps for Life this March to raise money for youth mental health support services. Mental health is something I personally have struggled with for years, so it is a cause close to my heart. I am incredibly grateful that I had access to the services I needed and an incredible support network of friends & family, however, I know not everyone has this privilege. I have the goal of swimming 20kms - that's just over 600ms every day in march to help other young people have access to the help they need.

Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people in Australia.

More than 1 in 3 are experiencing mental health difficulties, yet over a million are not getting the support they need.

ReachOut provides anonymous, free and 100% online services so young people can find a safe place to connect, share and get help when life feels overwhelming.
