Why I swim
Throughout my life I've grown up struggling with mental illness and expressing need for support, and unfortunately to this day I still struggle with the power mental illness holds over me. There have been many times in my life where I have wanted to give up and feel at peace, however reaching out for support and expressing my emotions has pushed me to keep going in this beautiful life I have been given. As someone who has struggled to speak up about their constant battles, and afraid to burden their loved ones, I would never wish this upon anyone. I don't want people to feel like their needs and emotions aren't accommodated for, I don't want them to have to experience the loneliness that resides with this. I want them to have hope on finding a way out. So this month I'm swimming to not only show strength for myself but for others and express that you are not alone in this journey, because nobody wants to be a statistic. Not only will this be a challenge for me and my peers but it will also require your support. Every lap I swim will help make sure there's a safe place for young people to turn when life feels overwhelming, and to prove that you have our support. Your donation will not only support me in this journey, but your peers and everyone. Your kindness is warranted and every donation counts :)
I'm swimming to save lives
Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people in Australia.
More than 1 in 3 are experiencing mental health difficulties, yet over a million are not getting the support they need.
ReachOut provides anonymous, free and 100% online services so young people can find a safe place to connect, share and get help when life feels overwhelming.
As someone who has grown up struggling with mental illness and is still on their well-being journey, I'm taking part in Laps for Life to not only show strength but to make sure these vital services are always accessible to anyone in need. Please support my peers and me by donating to my fundraiser, to show strength and help more young people get the support they deserve. Without your support, this wouldn't be possible. Your kindness is warranted and every donation counts :)
