Why I swim
In March of last year our family tragically lost my brother in law Charles to suicide. As a farmer, father and husband, Charles had successfully battled droughts, floods, fluctuating prices and life's ups and downs for many years, but the battle he couldn't win was with mental health. Sadly, Charles wasn't able to access the help he needed in a timely way. It is horrifying to read that suicide is the most common cause of death among young people. I’m swimming to help raise funds to support young people struggling with mental health. It is an honour too to be part of Laps for Elise, a team that honours a talented and amazing young person, Elise Hodder, whose life was tragically and criminally ended in October 2024. Elise was a huge supporter of Laps for Life and her team enjoys the feeling of continuing her work while honouring her memory.

Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people in Australia.
More than 1 in 3 are experiencing mental health difficulties, yet over a million are not getting the support they need.
ReachOut provides anonymous, free and 100% online services so young people can find a safe place to connect, share and get help when life feels overwhelming.
I’m taking part in Laps for Life to make sure these vital services are always there. Please donate to my fundraiser and help more young people get the support they deserve.
