Why I swim
On May 2nd, 2026 — what would have been my late Uncle Bruno’s 60th birthday — I’ll be swimming a solo 10km race at the annual Lake Argyle Swim. Mental health was something Bruno advocated for before he lost his own battle. Sadly, it continues to challenge a huge proportion of society, yet can feel incredibly isolating when you’re left alone with a wandering mind — a mental marathon. Swimming has always been grounding for me and helped optimise my own mental health. It now feels only fitting to combine my love of swimming with Bruno’s big 6-0 to raise awareness for suicide prevention. As the main race approaches, this March I’ll be taking on another kind of marathon — swimming over 42.2km in the water — because too many young lives are lost to suicide. Every lap I swim will help ensure there’s a safe place for young people to turn when life feels overwhelming. If you’re in a position to do so, I’d be incredibly grateful for any donation, big or small. Your support will help fund vital suicide prevention services and ensure young people have access to care, connection, and hope when they need it most. Thank you for taking the time to read, share, and stand with me in honouring Bruno’s legacy.
I'm swimming to save lives
Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people in Australia.
More than 1 in 3 are experiencing mental health difficulties, yet over a million are not getting the support they need.
ReachOut provides anonymous, free and 100% online services so young people can find a safe place to connect, share and get help when life feels overwhelming.
I’m taking part in Laps for Life to make sure these vital services are always there. Please donate to my fundraiser and help more young people get the support they deserve.
