Treading water

Our team is not focused on fitness levels, athletic ability or how many laps you can complete. We do not encourage anyone to push beyond their physical limits, and we never expect people to donate if it places them under financial pressure. What we do encourage is participation, conversation and connection. Many people who struggle do so in silence. This campaign is about creating space to talk openly and reduce stigma around mental health. The more we speak about these issues without shame or embarrassment, the more power we have to support one another and prevent loss. There is no failure here. You do not have to reach a fundraising target or swim a certain distance to make an impact. Simply being involved can create a ripple effect. You never know who may feel less alone because you chose to show up. Swimming can also be a way to care for yourself. Regular movement, time in the water and committing to a routine can positively support your mental wellbeing. This is about community, awareness and looking after yourself as much as anyone else.

Just keep swimming…

Join the team and encourage your mate to continue to show up, even when things feel heavy. Recognising that people who struggle, often struggle in silence… It does not deny that some days are hard. It is about making an active choice to keep moving forward anyway. This is for anyone who has felt overwhelmed or alone. You are not weak for struggling. There is strength in staying, in trying, in reaching out. We swim to honour those who are no longer here and to raise awarenes so fewer people have to face things alone. One day at a time, one lap at a time.

We’re swimming to save lives

Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people in Australia.

More than 1 in 3 are experiencing mental health difficulties, yet over a million are not getting the support they need.

ReachOut provides anonymous, free and 100% online services so young people can find a safe place to connect, share and get help when life feels overwhelming.

We're taking part in Laps for Life to make sure these vital services are always there. Please donate to our fundraiser and help more young people get the support they deserve.
