Why I swim

I'm swimming the March Because over the years I have watched too many of my friends go through the imminence pain and suffering that comes to loved ones, when a family member takes their own life. One of my dearest friends has lost more than one of his family to suicide and even though I have spent many hours, sitting out in the fields, or on the beach, my conversations can only bring him a small amount of comfort. Then about ten years ago, it became more personal, when some dear friends of mine, tragically lost their daughter. She had been born on the same day as my own youngest and we had all (both families) been involved in sporting activities, where we had competed together, with a friendly competitiveness. My dear friends were wonderful caring parents, who had no idea what was going on in this beautiful child's head. And it leads me to believe, that young people need an organisation like Reach Out Australia, to have on the end of a phone line. Talking to people who's training can help, in an anonymous way, that does not judge. I cannot change the past. I cannot bring back those who have gone, but maybe what we do here, can help young lives, for taking that ultimate step. Love to all.

Swimmer

Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people in Australia.

More than 1 in 3 are experiencing mental health difficulties, yet over a million are not getting the support they need.

ReachOut provides anonymous, free and 100% online services so young people can find a safe place to connect, share and get help when life feels overwhelming.

I’m taking part in Laps for Life to make sure these vital services are always there. Please donate to my fundraiser and help more young people get the support they deserve.
