Why I swim
I am swimming in honour of Declan Boyd, a young man I taught at a school who sadly lost his battle with mental health several years ago. I am passionate about this cause and I want to do what I can to raise money to help this really worthy cause to help as much as I can
I'm swimming to save lives
I am swimming in memory of a special young man named Declan Boyd whom I taught when I was a school music teacher. Sadly he lost his battle with mental health in 2015 aged just 20, but in honour of him, I want to swim 50km this month and raise $250 to do what I can to try and help others facing the same issues.
Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people in Australia.
More than 1 in 3 are experiencing mental health difficulties, yet over a million are not getting the support they need.
ReachOut provides anonymous, free and 100% online services so young people can find a safe place to connect, share and get help when life feels overwhelming.
I’m taking part in Laps for Life to make sure these vital services are always there. Please donate to my fundraiser and help more young people get the support they deserve.
