For most of my life, the black line at the bottom of the pool felt like home. Swimming taught me discipline, focus, and resilience — lessons I didn’t realise I would one day need to survive. Five years ago, an accident left me with chronic pain and serious fractures in my right leg. Rehabilitation and learning to walk again was one of the hardest challenges I’ve ever faced and with constant physical pain I didn’t think swimming would be possible for me again. Four months ago, I lost my brother to suicide. Forcing myself back to the pool through this initiative has been part of my healing — a way to keep moving even through grief and pain. This journey is helping me just as much as it’s helping others, and for that, I’m deeply grateful.
