I'm swimming to save lives
- This is my first year diving
- in for youth mental health
My son, Hunter, started swimming in squads at an early age. He looked up to many of the older swimmers and marvelled at how fast they swam. One of those swimmers Hunter looked up to was Claudia Neale. Claudia went on to achieve amazing things in swimming and I became friends with her parents, Matt and Fiona.
In 2020, Matt and Fiona lost Claudia to suicide. They are incredibly strong people and have done a lot to bring awareness to the topic of youth mental health.
To support Matt and Fiona, and in honour of Claudia, I am taking on the Laps for Life Challenge in March. I will swim 60km throughout the month as my way of contributing to the cause and raising much needed funds for the ReachOut mental health service.
ReachOut is the most accessed online mental health service for young people and their parents in Australia.
