Why I swim

Hi, I’m Mia—half-marathon survivor, aspiring triathlete and someone who’s learned (sometimes the hard way) just how important mental health truly is. This March I am swimming laps to raise money for mental health. Swimming laps is hard… but navigating mental health struggles can feel like being stuck out in the middle of the ocean with no shoreline in sight. Many people face that ocean every day—quietly, bravely, and often without the support they need. I’m doing this challenge because I know how transformative movement can be. I know what it feels like to push through personal obstacles. And I want anyone that may need to hear to know it’s okay to start small, to wobble, to reach out for help, and to begin again as many times as they need. If you choose to donate, share, or simply cheer me on from dry land, thank you. Your support genuinely means the world. Every dollar helps make mental health resources more accessible. Every encouraging message fuels another lap. If you ever need to talk, my inbox is always open. Here’s to swimming, healing, raising money and maybe just maybe looking graceful in a swim cap someday.

Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people in Australia.

More than 1 in 3 are experiencing mental health difficulties, yet over a million are not getting the support they need.

ReachOut provides anonymous, free and 100% online services so young people can find a safe place to connect, share and get help when life feels overwhelming.

I’m taking part in Laps for Life to make sure these vital services are always there. Please donate to my fundraiser and help more young people get the support they deserve.
