Why I swim
I have had the best time participating in Laps for Life. I’m a great gran blessed with having the most beautiful and precious young people in my life. It heartens me that I could take part in fundraising to make a difference in the mental health outcomes for our youth who face such diverse challenges. It’s wonderful to know donations go to Reachout who provide a safe place when life becomes overwhelming and also work to prevent youth suicide. I’m looking forward to continuing the swim and the fundraising to the end of March. Give generously-it will be appreciated.
Donate to prevent youth suicide
Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people in Australia.
More than 1 in 3 are experiencing mental health difficulties, yet over a million are not getting the support they need.
ReachOut provides anonymous, free and 100% online services so young people can find a safe place to connect, share and get help when life feels overwhelming.
I’m taking part in Laps for Life to make sure these vital services are always there. Please donate to my fundraiser and help more young people get the support they deserve.

My Updates
Day 12 - final push
Starting today Plan is to knock over 2 klms by the end of the week to reach 10 klm goal although I’ll keep swimming for this cause to the end of March and maybe just make it part of my daily routine. The support has been inspirational and I’ve been so excited to see the $ amount surpassing the goal showing how much people care about preventing youth suicide and improving mental health. Share
Day 10 the challenge
Today I challenge myself to do 50 laps which is 10 more than I try to do normally. One and a half hours later and I’m done and exhausted. I want to dedicate my 50 laps to my donors – Brenda Kerry Fran Fay Kym Rick Kathie Leanne Jon Danny James Jo Cheryl and Lynn - thank you for believing in our youth and making sure they have a safe place always. Share
Day 4
Much excitement-the $500 goal has been adjusted higher due to the generous donations. I’ll have to up my daily laps in response because your support has given me belief that I can do more 🤔 working together to give our youth the resources they need to develop to their full potential-awesome. Share
Goal reached
Thank you to my wonderful friends Brenda Brownhill and Cheryl Brown whose generosity has bumped my donations over the $500 goal. My heartfelt gratitude to all the donors helping to make a difference in prevention of youth suicide and bring about better mental outcomes. You are all legends and I’ll swim like a fish in March to honour your generosity and belief. 🙏🙏🙏 ShareDay 3
A very enjoyable swim in our local creek this morning, estimated activity about 1 km swimming and another 1 km walking against the tide. The day was that perfect day of sun surfing beach. Feeling inspired to continue lap swimming, race funds, be active and do something positive for our youth. ShareI’m ready
After a rocky start to the year I’m feeling 100 percent for my level of physical and mental well being. I have a great bunch of friends and a beautiful family and it is due to their support that those challenges I faced can be resolved, can in fact make you stronger. It was this in mind that made it easy for me to sign up for Laps for Life because it can make a difference, give someone a go, a leg up to get over the hurdles and smile again. Please donate, even a small amount, to make a difference in someone’s life, particularly a young life as it truely does make a difference. ShareIs this training
High tide creek swim at home base Hastos can hardly be training, however the crystal clear depths of gently flowing water leading out to the ocean beyond did lend a little resistance. It certainly impresses in you the value of water based exercise not just physically but also with mental well being. Share
