Marcus Ryan

I'm swimming to save lives & honour lives of friends I've lost.

  • This is my first year diving

  • in for youth mental health

We've hit the $1,000 target, now I'm trying to double it! Let's get to $2,000 and help 500 young people.

Did you know suicide is the leading cause of death for young people in Australia?

That means that each year more young people die by suicide than in car accidents or from cancer.

This March, I'm swimming to make sure young people in Australia have the mental health support they urgently need.

By sponsoring my challenge, you’ll be helping to prevent youth suicide.

All funds raised will help young people feel better about today and the future, no matter what challenge they're facing.

Thanks for supporting and let's get that black dog off our backs. Cheers, Marcus

The beginning

For those unfortunate eyes who have been on my social media for several years, you know I've never been shy to post a travel pic of my naked bum in some random destination for a laugh, but today I had to embarrassingly ask the pool staff in my hometown to take my photo. I received a message from my local newspaper wanting to do a piece on the charity swim I'm doing this month and they requested a photo. After all, I'm probably the most famous person in Wonthaggi behind the guy on meth that rides around town no hands on his bike screaming at nothing, but they don't want to do a story on what he's raising money for. I assured the staff it wasn't for my dating profile and it was all for a good cause. I won't admit if I was flexing or not either. 😬 Anyway, before this ends up in the local paper and on their socials, I thought I'd get in first. I am raising money and awareness this month for youth suicide on behalf of ReachOut Australia & Laps for Life From their site:
"More than 1 in 3 young people in Australia is currently experiencing a mental health difficulty. But there’s an even bigger problem: more than 1 million of them are not accessing professional support. And, suicide remains the leading cause of death for 16-24 year olds in Australia."
I've lost too many friends to mention to suicide and a couple just this year. If I can get fit (and rock hard abs) at the same time as raising some dollars and get people talking about it, then I'm proud to get my shirt off and draw more attention to it! I'm ¼ of the way to my swimming target and 50% of the way to my donation target. I'll pop the fundraising link in the comments. Any donation small or large is appreciated, as well as your comments of encouragement. ❤
PS. I think it's rather fitting that the photographer subconsciously framed the 'Caution No D' on International Women's Day! 🤣 For all the ladies, enjoy the photo, happy IWD. You're welcome! 😍
PPS. For those who don't want to see any more pics of me shirtless, the sooner the donations reach $1,000 I will be sent out a hoodie to wear to cover up, so dig deep quickly! 🥰
