Why I swim
I am participating in Laps for Life this March because I am so sad that so many young people are lost to suicide and I want to try to do something to help. I want young people to know that suicide should never be an option. I want them to ask for help when they need it and never give up, no matter how bad they think things are.
I'm swimming to save lives. I want young people to reach out for help when they need it and never ever give up.
Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people in Australia.
More than 1 in 3 are experiencing mental health difficulties, yet over a million are not getting the support they need.
ReachOut provides anonymous, free and 100% online services so young people can find a safe place to connect, share and get help when life feels overwhelming.
I’m taking part in Laps for Life to make sure these vital services are always there. Please donate to my fundraiser and help more young people get the support they deserve.

My Updates
10th swim - 3km, which makes it 30km in total so far!!
Up visiting Rachel, so today I swam at Yeronga pool - choice of 25m or 50m pool. Which one did I choose?! My swim today was for Rachel, and all the other people working in youth advocate roles to help our younger generation to #justkeepswimming (preferably on the straight and narrow) :) Share
8th Swim - another 3km, this time with Emma :)
Swimming with my daughter Emma today and racked up another 3km. My swim today was for the first responders - police and ambulance, and for hospital emergency staff, including the social workers, like Emma who help families of those affected by suicide. Share
7th Swim - 3km, passing my swim goal at 21km in total!
Swimming back at Griffith Uni today and lots of young State and other swimmers around, which was relevant, as my swim today was for our younger generation. Please stay with us into the future x Share
6th Swim - another 3km with 3 generations swimming!
My mum and Rachel joined me at the pool as today's swim was for my son Dan, and for all friends that have been left behind when a mate leaves them forever. I hope you can all stay strong and keep looking out for each other. Please always ask for help when you need it x Share
Reached next goal of $2000!! New Goal = $2500
Thanks so much to my mum, her neighbour Jan, my Aunt & Uncle and Rachel for getting me over the $2000 mark! I'm currently sitting at 85/9464 on the individual fundraising leader board. Racked up 15km and only half way through the month! Thanks heaps to everyone for helping me support ReachOut so more young people can access help when they need it. Share
Another 3km swim done! This time with a friend :)
Today I shared a lane with the lovely Tracy Wicks, who smashed her previous swims! My swim today was for all the Mums, Dads, sisters and brothers and their extended families who have lost loved ones to suicide, and somehow keep getting up each day and soldiering on. #justkeepswimming. Share
It's Double Donation Day! Anything you donate today will be doubled!
If anyone can donate today, it will be doubled! Just for a limited time. Thanks so much to everyone that has already donated to this important cause. Share
4th swim - a big 3.5km swim today! Total km so far = 12
Managed a 3.5km swim today, in honour of Matt, lost to this world in May last year. Beloved son of Rosemarie & Peter and younger brother of my beautiful friend Fiona, who has already endured more than we ever should in one lifetime. Big hugs to all the family xxx Share
Wow! Just keep swimming x
