I'm swimming to save lives (with one-and-a-half arms)
- This is my second year diving
- in for youth mental health
Battling mental health issues can sometimes feel like you are fighting against life itself with one arm tied behind your back. In support of everyone who has, or one day will find it tough, this month I will tough it out in a physical challenge with one-and-a-half arms.
Last year I (tried to) swim with a broken arm and had more vertical progress than horizontal at times. This year I will up my game and see how many Laps for Life I can manage with a semi-functional arm during March.
With my family and teenage children closely affected by suicide, it scares me that suicide is the leading cause of death for young people in Australia. Each year more young people die by suicide than in car accidents or from cancer.
In the spirit of never giving up and knowing that life is often not easy, I'll be gritting my teeth and swimming with one-and-a-half arms to make sure young people in Australia have the mental health support they urgently need.
Please sponsor my challenge to raise much needed funds to help prevent youth suicide and know that you are helping young people feel better about today and the future, no matter what challenge they're facing.
First Day Back in the Pool
Surprised myself with my first swim! I promised myself not to overdo it until I saw how my busted arm responded to the exercise this year and stick to a maximum of 500m. It's been so long since I've swum laps (or done any real cardio exercise for that matter). My Swim Progress

Your goal has inspired me to see if I can do the same. I've done 3 x 1000kms since we last spoke. Swimming lots of laps is quite tiring.. does it get any easier?
