Why I swim

I’m (still) pretty new to this whole world of fitness, exercise, and looking after my health. What started as a small push to feel better eventually grew into something much bigger — a way to honour the people who’ve shaped me, and a way to give back. This year I’m again swimming in Laps for Life, raising awareness and support for youth mental health and suicide prevention. It’s a cause close to my heart… but the real heartbeat behind all of this is my dad. He was a quiet man, never one for the spotlight, but he was always — always — in my corner. Even as he faced the long, painful decline of Alzheimer’s and Dementia, his quiet strength and gentle encouragement stayed with me. Losing him a few years ago changed me. Inspiring me. Reminding me that showing up — even in small ways — matters. So these laps are for young people who need hope. They’re for families trying to hold things together. And they’re for my dear old dad, whose quiet belief in me still carries me forward, stroke by stroke. If you can support this cause, thank you. And if all you can give is a moment of awareness, that matters too. Together, we can help someone stay afloat.

Swimmer

Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people in Australia.

More than 1 in 3 are experiencing mental health difficulties, yet over a million are not getting the support they need.

ReachOut provides anonymous, free and 100% online services so young people can find a safe place to connect, share and get help when life feels overwhelming.

I’m taking part in Laps for Life to make sure these vital services are always there. Please donate to my fundraiser and help more young people get the support they deserve.
