Why I swim
I’m swimming this March because too many young lives are lost to suicide. Every lap I swim will help make sure there’s a safe place for young people to turn when life feels overwhelming.
I'm swimming to save lives
Swimming has always been important to my mental health, and since my husband David’s bike accident 2 years ago, even more important. Mental health challenges are very common these days and I have participated in this swimming fund raiser three times before. I think it is worth supporting. It also provides me with a focus to swim in March (which I like to do anyway!) fitted around David’s physio rehab and other health related commitments /visits. Etienne and Archer also plan to swim 4km between them as part of my total. I am keen they understand the need to support and help other people deal with our challenging world. I would be most grateful if you could consider donating - we have have committed to swim 26km over the month (but might swim more) , but am committing to this distance!! Both my grandsons will be swimming in a 25 metre pool over March (they are in this photo with me) - as part of this total - so we are a team!!!.
Also as outlined by this charity website / promotional material I now know that “suicide is the leading cause of death for young people in Australia - more young people die by suicide than in car accidents or from cancer. That is why I'm swimming to make sure young people in Australia have the mental health support they urgently need. All funds raised will help young people feel better about today and the future, no matter what challenge they're facing”.
