3km for the 30th of march

To wrap things up, I exceeded all my expectations when I began this journey at the start of the month. I initially planned to swim 31 km, which I thought was a realistic and achievable goal, swimming 1 km each day for the month. Once I achieved that goal last week, I decided to raise the target to 42 km, which I reached today. I also believe this is the first time I’ve ever swum 3 km in the pool. Hitting milestones hasn’t always been what drives me, but for a cause like Laps for Life, it feels good to push myself and see what I’m truly capable of. Financially, the fundraising effort has also blown me out of the water. I reached my first fundraising goal of $500 on the first day, thanks to an old friend of mine, Ashby legend. So I raised the goal to $1,000. I reached that around the same time as my initial swim goal, so again I raised it to $2,000, which was ambitious. Reaching a total of $1,400 has really exceeded what I thought would be possible. I’m so grateful to everyone who donated and supported me this month. It means a lot to me, but it means even more for those young people out there being able to access the support and resources that ReachOut provides. That’s what this is really all about, supporting the next generation so they can live their best lives.

Got through the week

It’s been a bit of a slog this week, dragging myself through it while battling this respiratory infection. I’m coming good again, I’ve still got a lingering cough but it feels like it will pass next week. I’m going to step it up again tomorrow, aim for 2km in the pool each day. let’s go!

Sick but don’t quit

Feeling a little under the weather these last few days. I’ve got a respiratory infection. My body is saying rest, but my mind is pushing me forward. I won’t give in, no matter how tough it gets. I’ve had my own struggles and battled my own demons when it comes to mental health since I was young, and too often I didn’t know where to go, what to do, or who to turn to for support. If you know a young person out there who may be struggling with their mental health or battling the demons in their mind, give them the support they need. If you’re not sure what to do or how to support them, you can jump onto ReachOut and check out the great resources they offer. They have heaps of tools that can help you better support a young person’s needs. Suffering in silence or doing nothing often makes things worse—be proactive. If a young person doesn’t get the help or support they need, it can have serious long-term impacts. It would definitely be far worse than the pain and suffering I’m going through right now being sick and swimming laps. So jump in and get amongst it. My message to those doing it tough: “Don’t give up. Reach out. Ask for help.” You can get the help and support you need. ReachOut provides that support if you don’t know where to start or who to talk to. Starting a conversation with a trusted support person or loved one can be challenging, but once you do, you may feel a weight lifted off your shoulders—like you can finally come up for breath, knowing you’ve got the right support around you. You don’t have to go it alone or carry all that weight by yourself. There are people out there who want to help. All you have to do is ask. Peace, Love, Joy & Vegetables. Sammy. Out

Half way through the challenge, I’ve decided to up the anti alittle by adding an extra 500m to make my total per day 1.5km to push myself a little further and challenge myself that bit more.

Day 2 - 1.5km

Second swim put in an extra 500m to get ahead on the kind weekend.
