Why I swim

I’m swimming this March because too many young lives are lost to suicide. Every lap I swim will help make sure there’s a safe place for young people to turn when life feels overwhelming.

Swimmer

I’m doing this in memory of my best friend. Losing someone you love to suicide is hard to explain until you’ve lived it. Grief is never a straight line, but what hurts the most is knowing that someone you loved felt so alone in the world, even if they’re surrounded by people that love them.

That’s why Laps for Life matters - Youth mental health and suicide prevention is about making sure that when someone is at their lowest point, they know they’re not fighting the battle on their own.

Swimming these laps is my way of turning grief into action. Every kilometre is for you Yasmin, and for every young person who feels unheard, lost or overwhelmed.

Check in on the people in your life, and if you’re struggling - there is ALWAYS someone in your corner 🌻

Amazing work Cooper, I’m so sorry you lost your friend, it’s great you’re spreading the message. Working in mental health I’m still surprised people don’t know what help is available & we do care & will help & it can get better Keep up the amazing work
