Why I swim
I’m swimming this March because too many young lives are lost to suicide or existing in the world by surviving (rather than thriving). Every lap I swim will help support creating a safe place for young people to turn when life feels overwhelming. Swimming cannot fix and heal everything, but it can be a beautiful entrance point to connecting the next generation with the adequate supports they will need before they enter their adulthood (and hopefully allowing them to see themselves existing in the future)
I'm swimming to support the kiddos who can't.
Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people in Australia.
More than 1 in 3 are experiencing mental health difficulties, yet over a million are not getting the support they need. ReachOut provides anonymous, free and 100% online services so young people can find a safe place to connect, share and get help when life feels overwhelming.
I’m taking part in Laps for Life to make sure these necessary services are always there. Please donate to the fundraiser and help more young people get the support they deserve.
More broadly, this is a space close to my heart. As a teenager, I experienced multiple depressive episodes and did not believe I would make it past 16. As an adult, working in the space of mental health, I know the value of mental health support services and if we can help at least one young person, that would be incredible.

My Updates
Starting first swim today!
I will update once it is completed with how far I journeyed. Very exciting. I started swimming again last year, after at least 20 years of not swimming. I started after my physical health took a turn and I began to go to hospital more frequently for my health and hormones. I had been wanting to find a way to move my body, while supporting my own health conditions (Chronic Fatigue + POTS) and have found swimming along the way. I am keen to see how many kms I can commit to, as I have recently worked my way up to 850m-1km swims :) ShareThank you to my
