Why I swim

I’m swimming this March because too many young Australians are silently struggling. As a dad, that hits differently. I look at my son and think about the world he’s growing up in — the pressure, the noise, the expectations. No young person should feel like they have nowhere to turn. Every early morning lap, every cold start, every tired session — it’s for something bigger than fitness. It’s for creating safe places where young people can reach out before things feel overwhelming. If you can, support the cause. One conversation can change a life.

Swimmer

Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people in Australia.

More than 1 in 3 are experiencing mental health difficulties, yet over a million are not getting the support they need.

ReachOut provides anonymous, free and 100% online services so young people can find a safe place to connect, share and get help when life feels overwhelming.

I’m taking part in Laps for Life to make sure these vital services are always there. Please donate to my fundraiser and help more young people get the support they deserve.

Great cause. I can relate because I know the stats and I have a son turning 14 today, I was a teenage school age every year swim champion and got to zone and sometimes state. It was tough and have got back into swimming to do ocean races with my son who is turning out to be quite the fish but doesn’t want to compete and while I’d love him to, its not for him, and that’s OK. Thanks for doing this.
